68: Kate Kennedy (@bethereinfive), Entrepreneur, Author, and Podcast Host
On this episode I talk to entrepreneur Kate Kennedy (@bethereinfive). Kate dives into how she went from a career in corporate advertising to running her own business, along with her interest in pop culture. We talk about the differences between Gen Z and Millennials, our love for TikTok, the ability to be emotionally affected by social media, and its detriments (especially for those in college).
Follow Up Q&A:
First thing you do in the morning? Press snooze, look for Tugboat!
What advice would you give your younger self? When you're younger, you do everything in your power to fit in. But when you're an adult, all you want to do is stand out. Don't dilute your personality or try and constantly correct for what makes you different. Lean into it. (Lean in! What an original thought!) Your perceived shortcomings often become your secret weapons. People made fun of me for writing poems on the playground but a poem is what got me my first break when my book was published 20+ years later.
Wellness trend you love and wellness trend you wish would end? The term self-care as almost a commodity? I feel like it's being treated as a hip new industry but I'd rather it be perceived more like a default setting. Yes, we should prioritize taking care of ourselves, but I'm not sure that jade roller gift guides are the answer.
First Job? Hostess at California Pizza Kitchen. I got $12 of free food per shift, it was awesome.
Proudest moment? My Caroline's live show in NYC
3 most used emojis? 😘🙄💯
Favorite ice cream flavor? I feel like this isn't normal for people who aren't toddlers but I love some rainbow sherbet.
Coffee or matcha? Coffee
Stay up late or wake up early? Late to bed, late to rise is a self-employment perk I take advantage of.
Favorite meal of the day? Dinner
