43: My Dad, Jud Linville, on Fatherhood and Career Advice

I sit down with my dad, Jud Linville, to discuss fathering three daughters with his high school sweetheart and his journey from getting a doctorate in psychology to becoming the CEO of global cards and consumer services at Citi. We also discuss his definition of happiness, his thoughts on my career move, his advice on parenthood, and answers to some of the questions you all submitted!

Follow Up Q&A:

  1. First thing you do in the morning? Coffee.  Meditate.  Gym.  (I know you are going to tell me Coffee after meditate.  Heck, I like to shake it up).

  2. What advice would you give your younger self? Take even more time asking questions.  I was always quick to go into do mode, and “follow me!”

  3. Wellness trend you love and wellness trend you wish would end? Peloton.  Anything other than regular ice cream (cream based)!!

  4. First Job? Cutting lawns.  Then cutting down trees.  Then snow plowing.  Then loading trucks @ UPS on night shift.  Then working bagging machines @ National Sugar Refinery on night shift (now Sugar House Casino in Philly).  Then on the ovens and mix master @ TasteCake on night shift (Butterscotch Crimpets and TandyCakes).  Gave you the whole string from 10yrs to 20yrs on because it shaped who I am!

  5. Proudest moment? Easy.  The arrival of my 3daughters.  Cliche.  But true!

  6. 3 most used emojis? 👍🏻😂🙄

  7. Favorite ice cream flavor? Hoffman’s Jersey Monkey (vanilla, peanut butter and chocolate)

  8. Cocktail of choice? Titos on rocks with 2limes in warm weather.  Woodferd Reserve with one big cube in colder months

  9. Favorite NYC spot? My girls apartment.  OK!  Library @ University Club or any Danny Meyer restaurant.

  10. Stay up late or wake up early? Wake EARLY.
