39: Lisa Karvellas on co-founding Cedar Lakes Estate (@thesistersofcedarlakes)
On this episode, I’m joined by Lisa Karvellas, half of the sister founding team of Cedar Lakes Estate - the gorgeous venue where Joe and I were married. Lisa shares the amazing story of how she and her sister founded CLE, the hard work it took, and how they’ve grown the venue over the years. We share our favorite aspects of the venue and reminisce about our favorite moments over our wedding weekend.
Follow Up Q&A:
First thing you do in the morning? I wish I had one of those boss-lady answers to this like "I drink hot water with lemon, then meditate, then do a 90-minute spin class." But the reality is that first, I do anything and everything to convince my puppy to come snuggle me. Next, I scroll through Instagram for way too long before getting out of bed -- I'm not proud of this ritual, but it's the truth.
What advice would you give your younger self? "SELF! Stop worrying so much, it always works itself out."
Wellness trend you love and wellness trend you wish would end? I love the plant-based, non-processed, REAL food "trend." I am air-quoting "trend" because this has been the best diet from the beginning of time -- we just had to go full circle to get back here. Michael Pollan's advice is best, "eat food, not too much, mostly plants." It's so simple. The wellness trends that I wish would end is literally any other diet -- keto, paleo, intermittent fasting -- I can't even keep up anymore.
First Job? Slinging grilled cheeses at the Snack Bar at the lake in my hometown.
Proudest moment? Becoming an Aunt to my favorite human, Lila.
3 most used emojis? 🥴🙃👹
Favorite ice cream flavor? Chocolate everything, always.
Cocktail of choice? Negroni!
Go-to recipe? My husband and I cook pasta pretty much every night. We just get whatever looks good at the Farmer's Market and create a pasta dish out of it.
Best advice you’ve ever been given? "You never fail until you stop trying." from my friend Albert Enstein, and "No one else knows what they're doing either!" from my business partner and sister, Stephanie.
