Redecorating our Bedroom

As part of our construction project, we decided to remove the fake wall that had been separating our bedroom into two separate rooms to create one large bedroom big enough for, you guessed it, a king-sized bed. After living in this one-flex-two room for 8+ years (3 of which with Joe), we wanted to finally create a space that allowed someone to get into bed from both sides (if you live in NYC, you understand how difficult this is and why it is such a big deal) and have two nightstands. Seems like a minuscule thing, but something we’ve dreamed of since he moved in. The newfound space also allows us to create a mini work corner for myself and an area to have Squash (if you’re reading this after we’ve had our son, that’s what we’ve been calling him up until delivery) to sleep with us in our bedroom in the newborn phase. In an effort to answer any upcoming questions, I’ve linked everything below that we decided to purchase for the redecoration!

Bed frame: we are absolutely obsessed with the Room and Board Ella Frame that we went with. Definitely on the pricier end and we had to wait longer than we would’ve liked due to Covid delays, but absolutely worth the investment. This is probably my favorite piece in our apartment right now.

Mattress, pillows, and bedding: after falling in love with my big sister’s mattresses in her new house, we knew we wanted an Avocado mattress (#gifted). We went with the Avocado Green Mattress and Avocado Green Pillows, which have proven to be the comfiest things in the entire world. If you’re interested in trying for yourself, use code FRECKLED for $125 off. Trust me, they are worth the investment and have made a huge difference in our sleep. We also added two decorative pillows from Target just for some additional color. Of course, we went with Brooklinen (#gifted) for our bedding and decided on the Luxe Sateen sheets and pillowcases which are so incredibly soft. Use code “freckledfoodie” for $50 off.

Nightstands and lamps: both our nightstands and bedside lamps are from Target and I personally love how they pull together the black / grey / white color palette of the room

Desk: for my mini “work corner”, we went with this West Elm desk and black Wayfair chair

Dressers: we wanted two side-by-side matching white dressers and after much debate and a canceled order due to insane delays (from Room & Board), we went with these Wayfair dressers. While we love the final result and are happy with the purchase, it should absolutely come with a *buyer beware* that you have to very legitimately assemble these and it is not easy. We shockingly were able to do it, but it was absolutely the most difficult thing I’ve ever put together. The mirrored tall dresser that we have is an old purchase from Pier1 Imports that unfortunately is no longer available

Decor: since the only full-length mirror in our apartment is in a place that doesn’t permit me to actually get a full-body selfie and I am an “influencer” after all, I knew I wanted an additional full-length mirror in our bedroom so we went with this one from Amazon. For the artwork, we repurposed two pieces we already had throughout our apartment: a Nude Yoga Girl print and an old purchase from One Kings Lane of a William Stafford Diver photograph. For paint, we went with Clare and used Fresh Kicks for the ceiling and On Point for the walls. For the shades, we invested in the Shade Store and went with the Thompson Stone color.
